FREE ACTIVITY
If you have a young Leonardo, Tracey Emin or Hockney in the family who is fascinated by flight and loves drawing and colouring in then the Royal Air Force Museum has 2 events this Halloween Half Term that will fuel their imaginations and make their artistic natures soar.
From Monday 26th October to Friday 30th the Museum will be turning its Milestones of Flight Hangar into a giant artists’ gallery and will be inviting children of all ages to take inspiration from the Hangar’s aircraft to design the plane of the future, a new piece of wing art or if they prefer just to draw one of this gallery’s many wondrous aircraft.
All materials will be provided free of charge; with children either able to display their drawings in Milestones’ temporary Young Artists’ Gallery for other visitors to view or, if they prefer, to take home and keep on their fridge for friends and family to admire.
Sessions for this activity will run from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm; with members of the Museum’s Access and Learning Department ready, willing and able to answer any questions that children may have about aircraft design and flight.
Each day, from Monday to Friday, a different professional painter of the Guild of Aviation Artists will also be present in Milestones, depicting in either oil or charcoal a specific aircraft from the Hangar’s collection. So why not bring your budding Banksy along and let their imaginations take flight. The sky is quite literally the limit!
For Halloween Weekend, October 31st and 1st November, the Museum will have an extra special treat in store, when we explain “How Broomsticks Fly”. Suitable for children age 3 and above this activity includes craft sessions in the Museum’s interactive gallery for children, Aeronauts. Here we will explain how important your balance and a witch’s cat is for ‘Broomstick Flight Operations’ when you are quite literally flying by the seat of your pants! After which they can apply their new knowledge by making a mini model of a witch with cat and broomstick to hang in their bedroom window to warding off any mischievous spirits and sprites that roam the night. Craft sessions will run on both days from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm, with all materials supplied free of charge.
The Royal Air Force Museum London is open daily from 10am to 6pm, with last admission being at 5.30 pm. Admission and parking at the site are free of charge. Come visit, you’ll have a frighteningly good time!

Description
The Royal Air Force Museum is Britain's only national museum dedicated wholly to aviation.
The Museum is situated on the site of the original London Aerodrome, used for the great Hendon Air Shows between the two World Wars. Five mammoth buildings contain over a hundred aircraft, artefacts, aviation memorabilia, fine art and photographs covering the history of aviation from early balloon flights to the latest jet fighters.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of powered flight, the Royal Air Force Museum expanded the site by a third and opened two new exhibition halls.
