Description
Station of the Skirt is a body of new work by British artist, Jane
Andrews. In this series of paintings, executed during a 2 year period
following her husband's diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, she
consistently uses the skirt as her starting point.
The results while often dark are always quirky and engaging - using
humour to subvert, and make comment on the social, cultural and domestic
restrictions the Skirt is used to signify.
Jane Andrews has her own distinctive style. She paints with a
sensitivity and vigour that immediately captivates her audience. Her
compositions positively hum with a spirited personality and,
exceptionally among her peers, she is able to create paintings that take
on a distinct and disturbing life all of their own.
Jane Andrews is winner of the Emerging Artist Prize at the Limner
Gallery in New York in 2001 and the Lukas Painting Prize in 2002. The
artist has exhibited widely in the UK and the USA, France, Denmark,
Italy, Germany, Eire, Switzerland and Spain.
