Description
Communique just received ...
"This year I am organising a Golden Egg Hunt around London and you could be part of the scramble to get your hands on the egg!
I am going to bury a golden egg somewhere in London. The egg, worth over £1,000, is decorated with rubies, diamonds and sapphires and whoever discovers its location is free to do with it as they wish!
The hunt will start on Monday 1st March and run for 5 weeks. Each weekday, a clue will be released at http://www.goldegghunt.com. These clues will take the form of a puzzle, a brain-teaser, riddle, picture problem, anagram or coded message. Each week, the five daily clues will lead you to a ‘Weekly clue’ somewhere in London. You will need to leave the house for this. At the end of the five weeks, your five ‘Weekly clues’ will then point you to where the egg is buried! Don't worry the Weekly Clues are permanent fixtures so you won't miss out if you don't get there first. The final daily clue in the final week will be released on the Saturday (rather than the Friday) so that people working on Friday have an equal opportunity to solve the Weeklies and get to the egg first.
Anybody can enter the hunt and its completely free and un-sponsored so the question I am most often asked is why am I doing this?
It's an idea I had about six months ago, after organising a small treasure hunt for a friend. I had a great time sorting it out, and they really enjoyed following the clues. I thought about doing a big public hunt but then realised that would need something worth while to get people interested.
The initial plan was to bury something of value and make people pay a small sum (£1 or something), but then I thought about it and thought that nobody would be interested in paying to do an online puzzle (quite rightly).
So in the end I decided to go ahead with the plan anyway as I think that we could all use a little extra intrigue and fun in our lives. Something with no hidden agenda. I'm not pushing a product, a brand, or want your email addresses or a list of your interests.
Instead it's something I thought would be fun, and could bring some like minded people together. Discussing clues, helping each other working them out and pretty much have a little escape from what can be a pretty mundane working week.
