Description
A double bill of big bands that exemplify the strengths of jazz in Scotland. Tommy Smith's leadership of the National Jazz Orchestra has explored the time-honoured repertoire of Ellington, Basie, Mingus and Gil Evans, as well as commissioning new music from the contrasting pens of Keith Tippett and Maria Schneider.
They present the programme of Steely Dan's music that made a huge impact at this year's Glasgow Jazz Festival. Tommy's tireless commitment to his Youth Jazz Orchestra is equally remarkable - here is a band stuffed with teenagers that can rivet audiences anywhere.
