Description
going going gone GREEN. The Spitalfields Show and Green Fair encourages everyone to grow their own fruit and vegetables and display them alongside fabulous flowers and home-made bread & cakes, chutneys & jams. This annual event has always supported city growers and is more popular every year.
Come along and get inspired to be more green and care for the environment. There's lots to enjoy from the Horticultural Show with its great display of home grown fruit, vegetables, flowers and home-made produce to the Green Market with a wide range of stalls providing a wealth of information, delicious food and creative goods.
The Spitalfields Show takes place in a large white marquee with entries by people from all over London. There are 13 sections and 101 classes which include a special children's section & pets section, flower arranging, fruit, vegetables, herbs, pot plants, preserves, cookery and handicrafts. Whether you have a garden, allotment, backyard, balcony or window box you can enter this show. Entries arrive at 9am. Judging takes place at 11am and the show is open to the public from 12noon to 4pm. Judges are drawn from local and regional expertise.
All prizes will be presented at 4pm including the Individual Champion's Cup, the Group Champion's Cup and the Junior Champion's Cup to the entrants who have gained most points for their entries. All first prize winners receive red rosettes and runners up receive certificates. At 4.15pm all uncollected entries will be auctioned and funds raised will go towards supporting next year's show.
The Spitalfields Green Fair will have all kinds of stalls: healthy living and nutritional advice, alternative therapies, info on recycling, composting and growing your own food, biodiversity and sustainability workshops, a market selling arts & crafts, books, home-made cakes, herbs & plants, organic food and drinks and Fairtrade goods, info on climate change, emissions reduction, energy conservation and renewable energy for greener homes, a cycling arena by the Tower Hamlets Wheelers and Rickshaw Rides.
The Spitalfields City Farm will be open for refreshments, donkey rides, visiting the animals and touring the garden run by the Bangladeshi women of the Coriander Club.
