The festival is taking place at Archway Close (where the Archway Tavern is), with Archway Park on St John’s Way used for the football tournament. It is being organised by Islington Council and supported by a number of partners: Arsenal FC, Budgens of Archway, Friends of Archway Market and the Better Archway Forum.
As part of the festival, a number of island/seaside themed art installations have been commissioned for the site. Nicola Shilcock, a graduate from Byam Shaw School of Art in Archway, and Mina Samangooei, a graduate from Oxford Brookes School of Architecture have been working throughout the summer to develop a number of temporary installations. All are evocative of a bygone era, such as a Victorian British seaside resort. They include a lighthouse overlooking the ‘sea of traffic’, lifebelts around the perimeter, seaside viewers and attractions, a sun deck and a head through hole photo board... see if you can spot Dick Wilmington’s cat!
