Around the world, one fur-bearing animal dies every second; over 50 million animals die every year for their fur, merely to satisfy the whims of fashion. Year on year, international campaigners, Respect for Animals, hosts ‘Design Against Fur’, a student competition aimed at encouraging designers, consumers, retailers and celebrities to take responsibility for allowing the trade and production of fur products to continue.

Design Against Fur provides students in fashion, design, fine arts, advertising, marketing, graphic design and multi-media with an opportunity to produce a thought provoking, creative campaign poster that delivers a compassionate animal protection message. The DAF 2008 winners have been selected by an expert judging panel  and although names have been announced, the winning designs will be kept under wraps until the launch of the Design Against Fur exhibition for the London Design Festival in the City’s dreamspace gallery. Winners will be presented with their prizes at an exclusive presentation evening on Monday 15th September 2008.

The exhibition of winning and commended designs will run from Monday 15 September to Friday 19 September 2008 at the dreamspace gallery, 1-3 Dufferin Street, London, EC1Y 8NA.
