Join us for a series of performances that explore the instruments and traditions shown in the Museum's exhibition Utsavam-Music from India.
Carnatic Music Performance featuring the Vina
Sun 14 Sept 3–4pm
Experience music of the vina, the most important stringed instrument of south Indian classical music, played by Subathra Raguraman. With accompaniment by the mrdangam, the tuned barrel drum of south India, and other percussion instruments.
Kala Chethana Kathakali
Sun 21 Sept Workshops 10.30am– 2.30pm, Performance 3– 4pm
Dancers and musicians from Kerala will perform Kathakali, one of the best known dance forms of Kerala. Before the performance, workshops will explore Kathakali music, the dancers' symbolic gestures or mudras, and their elaborate costumes and make up.
Assamese Dance and Pandit Biplab Mondal
Sun 28 Sept Dance 11am–12pm, Music 3–4pm
Traditional Ojapali dance from Assam incorporating a talk, followed by a performance of the rhythms and ragas of north India led by Pandit Biplab Mondal.

Entrance to the Museum and Gardens is FREE. A charge is made for some major temporary exhibitions.
Facilities and access
The Museum and Gardens are both wheelchair and pushchair friendly with accessible toilets. A lift gives access to all the exhibition areas. Baby changing facilities are available in Gallery Square.

By train
The Museum is signposted from Forest Hill station takes around five to ten minutes to walk.
Forest Hill station is well served by trains from Central London, Croydon and Surrey. Direct train services run from London Bridge (approx every ten minutes, journey time 13 minutes) linking with the Northern and Jubilee lines, London Victoria linking with the Victoria, Circle and District lines, New Cross Gate linking with the East London line, East Croydon, West Croydon, Sutton, Purley and Caterham.
